Each one of the metal sculptures in Mask of the Unknown are site reactive and change with diverse venues just as an individuals character changes in various contexts. Pattern and lighting choices are driven by the idea of multiple personas. Though a person, such as myself, cannot truly be known, I can try to show the different mask’s. The fact is, all the underlining reasons why someone acts a certain way in various situations and with different people is unknown.

The same reasoning can be applied to the phenomenon that happens in nature. Patterns happen for a reason, whether that be patterns in weather, animals, migration, cycles of time, or personalities. They help people to find comfort in the predictability of the unknown. There is a saying that history repeats itself and from that pattern the future can be predicted to some degree by seeing the effects of the past.

All the metal sculptures in the series Mask of the Unknown describe a different type of persona, a mismatched pattern. They can be combined to make new works. This is about the combination of patterns that make people who they are, and the interchangeable masks people wear. A person cannot be judged or predicted based off past patterns.
